Town of Hayden Awarded Economic Development Initiative

On Monday at the Meeker Golf Course,  Lt. Governor Donna Lynn and the Executive Director of the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade (OEDIT), Stephanie Copeland, awarded the Town of Hayden a Blueprint 2.0 economic development project. The initiative, titled Community Placemaking, will engage the community by identifying local assets, providing instruction on the fundamentals of developing a sense of place, and developing a cohesive vision and strategy based on community assets. Hayden is honored and exited to receive this award, and was joined by other communities from across the state who received similar awards.

The OEDIT team will be partnering with the Colorado Department of Local Affairs (DOLA) and Community Builders (a community planning and placement non-profit based out of Glenwood Springs) to guide Hayden’s community placemaking. The group will lead three community workshops in Hayden, engaging local community leaders and business owners in the process, to  help define and identify: (1) the alignment access segments of community; (2) potential downtown improvement plans; (3)  physical assets for potential small scale renewal; and (4) potential actions to reinvigorate public spaces.

“We recently completed a community assessment project with OEDIT and are moving forward with the recommendations in that assessment. Community Placemaking was an initiative that OEDIT recommended we apply for, and we are very excited to have received this award and be able to take this next step in Hayden’s economic development. Ultimately, a unified and cohesive economic vision will help Hayden develop an actionable economic strategic business plan that we plan to complete in the early part of 2018,” said Councilwoman Ashley McMurray for the Town of Hayden.
